Data science collaboration to improve brain tumor treatment

Data science collaboration project between Amsterdam UMC Brain Tumor Center and Medstone: using artificial intelligence to improve brain tumor treatment

Medstone and Amsterdam UMC are collaborating on a new research project on possible treatment for glioblastoma, a type of brain tumor with a very poor prognosis. The project will focus on identifying treatments with optimal effectiveness and minimal side effects for the patient, reducing the chance of therapy resistance and relapse.

This will be done by using artificial intelligence technology known as Natural Language Processing (NLP). Medstone uses NLP to automatically scan and analyse scientific medical literature, making it possible to convert scientific publications and clinical records to structured data. This data will be used to analyse possible treatment combinations and identify which of those combinations show the most promising prospects for patients. Silvia Scoarta has been appointed as a PhD candidate for the four-year project.
